Dr. Ko is passionate about giving back to his community. As an undergraduate, he was awarded the TD Canada Trust Scholarship for Community Leadership and was named one of Canada’s “Top 20 Under 20”.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ko is a classically trained pianist and violinist graduated from Royal Conservatory of Music and, having performed professionally with both the Saskatoon and Regina Symphony Orchestras.

Meet Our Founder Dr. Raymond Ko

At Eye Surgeons of Regina, we are proud to be led by Dr. Raymond Ko, a vitreoretinal surgeon and Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Ko was born and raised in Saskatchewan. He combines surgical expertise with a strong commitment to medical education, innovation, and compassionate patient care. He founded Eye Surgeons of Regina to bring world-class retina care and vision restoration to his home province.

Dr. Ko earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with High Honours from the University of Saskatchewan. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto, where he was awarded the Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award for his outstanding contributions to the university community. He returned to Saskatchewan to complete his ophthalmology residency at the University of Saskatchewan.  

He then completed a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute. He also obtained a Master of Science in Health Sciences Education at McMaster University, focusing his research on innovations in surgical training.

Dr. Ko is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a recognized specialist in medical and surgical diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula, as well as complex cataracts. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), staying engaged in the latest advancements in his field both nationally and internationally.

He is the founder of Regina Eye Surgeons, where he leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering advanced, personalized eye care with state-of-the-art technology.

Dr. Ko serves as Chair of the Residency Competency Committee for ophthalmology in Saskatchewan and is a voting member on the national Ophthalmology Specialty Committee for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is actively involved in mentoring the next generation of eye surgeons and was honored with the Resident Doctors of Saskatchewan Excellence in Teaching Award for his dedication to education.
